Course Program of Study (CPoS)

Course Program of Study (CPoS) is a U.S. Department of Education regulation that requires students to be enrolled in courses that fulfill program of study requirements to receive federal financial aid.

What courses are eligible for CPoS?

Courses that meet the program of study requirements for a declared degree program are eligible for CPoS.

What courses may not be eligible for CPoS?

• Minor, Certificate, and Honors courses that DO NOT share with a declared degree program.
• Courses in Excess Credit.

How do I track in DegreeWorks courses that are eligible for CPoS?

Advisors can view CPoS audits and track which courses are eligible using the What-If tool. Courses that fall in the program of study are eligible for CPoS. Repeated courses and courses that fall in Excess Credits may not be eligible for CPoS. Minor and Honor blocks are removed from the CPoS Audit and courses may fall differently than the Academic Audit.

• Go to DegreeWorks.
• Click on the What-If tab.
• Select the “View Historic What-If Audit” drop-down.
• Choose the most recent CPOS audit.

How often does a CPoS audit run?

A CPoS audit is run after any registration change is made. This includes registering for new courses, dropping courses, courses going from waitlist to enrolled, etc.

How do I save a copy of the CPoS audit?

The Historic What-If Audit drop-down only saves the last five CPoS Audits. Users have the option to Save as PDF or print for their records. After choosing a CPoS audit, users can click on the print icon at the top of the page to save as PDF or print.
